Máximo Quiles Clinches 2026 Moto3 Title With Mandalika Win

Máximo Quiles clinched the 2026 Moto3 World Championship in emphatic fashion on October 11, winning the Indonesian Grand Prix at Mandalika for his tenth victory of the season. The 18-year-old CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team rider secured the title with five rounds still remaining.
MotoGP’s official report says Quiles took the lead on Lap 2 and built enough of a gap to control the closing stages despite receiving a track-limits warning. David Almansa finished second, while Brian Uriarte passed Matteo Bertelle on the final lap to take third.
A title won from the front
Quiles did not need to settle for a conservative points finish. He moved to the front early, briefly gave the chasing group hope with a mistake at Turn 16, then rebuilt his advantage. With two laps remaining, MotoGP reported that the gap had grown to 2.8 seconds—enough to manage the finish and secure both the race victory and the championship.
Almansa recovered from eighth position early in the race to finish second, strengthening his hold on second place in the standings. Behind him, the final podium place changed late after Álvaro Carpe crashed following contact with Adrián Fernández and Uriarte made his last-lap move.
How rare is five rounds early?
MotoGP says Quiles is only the fourth rider to clinch a Grand Prix motorcycle world championship in any class with five races remaining. The other three named by the series are Mike Hailwood, Giacomo Agostini and Marc Márquez. That comparison reflects how early the title was mathematically settled; it does not imply that the riders competed in the same era, machinery or competitive conditions.
The championship arrives in Quiles’ second Moto3 World Championship season. His 2025 rookie campaign produced three wins, nine podiums and two pole positions. According to MotoGP’s profile of the new champion, he opened 2026 by winning four of the first six races, then overcame a collarbone injury sustained at Silverstone and returned to win at MotorLand Aragón.
Victories at Misano and Austria completed a three-race winning streak before a second-place finish in Japan delayed the title celebration. The Mandalika win converted his next opportunity and took his 2026 victory total to ten.
What comes next
The season is not over, even though the championship is decided. Quiles still has five Moto3 rounds before his planned move to Moto2 in 2027. Those races will determine the remaining positions behind him and give the new champion a chance to add to a season that has already moved into the record book.
The title also adds another major result to a busy Mandalika weekend. In the premier class, Marc Márquez won Saturday’s MotoGP Sprint and took the championship lead. The two results are separate races and championships, but both reshaped their respective title stories in Indonesia.
