Hyundai Motor America is recalling 94,622 older luxury sedans because a front power-seat motor can overheat and start a fire while the vehicle is parked or being driven, according to federal recall data published in October.

The campaign covers certain 2015–2016 Hyundai Genesis sedans and 2017–2020 Genesis G80 models. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration identifies the campaign as 26V664. Hyundai’s internal campaign number is 308, while Genesis uses 035G.

The recall does not mean every car from those model years is affected. Owners should use the NHTSA VIN lookup or the manufacturer’s recall tool to check a specific vehicle. NHTSA says VINs in this campaign became searchable on October 13, 2026.

Why the seats can create a fire risk

According to NHTSA’s recall record, a front power-seat control switch can become stuck. That can keep a seat motor energized long enough to overheat, creating a fire risk whether the sedan is moving or parked.

NHTSA’s database marks this as a “park outside” campaign. Until the recall repair is completed, the agency and Hyundai advise owners to park outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures. That direction is more urgent than the routine “schedule service” language used for many recalls.

The repair is not ready yet

Hyundai was still developing the remedy when the recall record was published. Owner-notification letters are expected to be mailed on December 7, 2026. Hyundai owners can call 1-855-371-9460, while Genesis owners can contact 844-340-1200.

Owners do not need to wait for the mailed notice to check their VIN. If a car is included, the safest course is to follow the park-outside instruction now and monitor the recall record or contact a dealer for the latest repair schedule. Federal safety recalls are repaired without charge.

What this means for used-car shoppers

The affected sedans are now several years old and commonly change hands through used-car dealers and private sales. A buyer considering one should run the VIN before completing the purchase and confirm that any eventual repair has been recorded. A clean-looking vehicle history report does not replace an open-recall check.

The campaign follows several other recent fire- and safety-related actions covered by Chiefs Review, including the Volkswagen ID.4 battery recall and a Mercedes-Benz S-Class brake-hose recall. Each has different owner instructions, so drivers should follow the guidance tied to their own VIN rather than assuming the same precautions apply.
