Jaguar Type 01 Debuts With 1,000-Plus PS and a 400-Mile EPA Target

Jaguar has unveiled the production form of the Type 01, an all-electric four-door grand tourer that will open for orders in early 2027. The October 6 world premiere in New York matters for more than its dramatic bodywork: this is the first road car built on Jaguar’s dedicated electric architecture and the first production model of the brand’s reinvention.
The manufacturer says first customer deliveries are planned for the second half of 2027. Jaguar has not presented the car as a concept or claimed that final customer specifications are fixed; its own product page says some features may change before launch. That distinction is important because the headline performance and range figures remain manufacturer targets rather than independent test results.
Type 01 specifications announced so far
Jaguar says the Type 01 uses a tri-motor all-wheel-drive system producing more than 1,000 PS. Its dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture runs at 850 volts, and the company is targeting about 400 miles of EPA range. At a compatible 350-kW DC charger, Jaguar claims the car can add roughly 200 miles of range in 13 minutes.
The official Type 01 product page lists up to 1,030 PS and a claimed 0-to-62-mph time of as little as 3.2 seconds. It also describes four-corner air suspension, active dampers, all-wheel steering and torque vectoring. Those systems suggest Jaguar is trying to deliver a true long-distance performance GT rather than a conventional luxury sedan with an electric powertrain.
Jaguar also says the integrated body-and-battery structure is its stiffest yet and targets 50/50 weight distribution. Until independent road tests and final homologated figures arrive, buyers should treat the acceleration, charging and range numbers as company estimates.
A deliberately unconventional design
The Type 01 carries the long hood, low roof and cab-rearward stance previewed by Jaguar’s Type 00 design study. Its production body uses frameless doors, concealed handles and sensors, a deployable rear spoiler, very slim lighting and a glassless tailgate. A camera-based ClearSight display replaces the view through a traditional rear window.
That shape connects the new EV with Jaguar’s E-type and XJS history, but it is not a retro design. The New York launch placed the car within art, fashion, music and design programming, underscoring that Jaguar wants the Type 01 to function as a cultural statement as much as transportation. It is a high-risk strategy for a brand rebuilding its identity, yet it makes the car unmistakable in a crowded luxury-EV market.
Cabin technology and practical details
Inside, Jaguar describes four individual seating spaces divided by a central spine. A 24-inch OLED display combines instruments and infotainment, while a secondary seven-inch control device sits between the front occupants. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot and remote software updates are included in the announced technology package.
The cabin mixes leather and non-leather materials, including wool-blend textile and Ultrafabrics options. Jaguar quotes more than 450 liters of combined storage and says charging ports on both sides should make plugging in easier. An eight-year/100,000-mile battery warranty is also planned, although final market terms can vary.
Why this launch matters
Type 01 is the clearest test yet of whether Jaguar can move upmarket while switching to an electric-only product strategy. Reuters reported a U.S. starting price of $130,500, placing it well above mass-market EVs and into competition with established high-end performance brands.
The car arrives while other manufacturers are taking less uniform approaches to electrification. Porsche, for example, recently outlined a broader mix of combustion, hybrid and electric products in its updated long-term strategy. At the more accessible end of the market, the 2027 Toyota Corolla Cross shows how hybrids continue to compete for buyers who are not ready for a battery-only vehicle.
Jaguar is choosing the opposite route: fewer vehicles, a much higher price point and a design-led EV identity. The Type 01’s success will depend on whether the production car delivers its promised range, charging performance and driving character—and whether enough buyers accept its unconventional proportions and premium positioning.
Availability
Jaguar says Type 01 orders will open at the start of 2027, with initial deliveries expected in the second half of that year. The car is designed, engineered and built in the United Kingdom. Market-specific pricing, equipment and final certified specifications should be confirmed closer to launch.
