Opel Cuts Astra Entry Price With New Hybrid and Electric Start Trim

Opel is lowering the entry price of its Astra range in Germany with a new Start trim, including a €36,490 battery-electric version with vehicle-to-load capability.

Opel announced the Astra Start on October 13 as part of its 2027-model-year trim strategy. German pricing begins at €31,890 including VAT for the five-door Astra Hybrid and €33,390 for the Astra Sports Tourer. Opel says those prices are €1,500 below the previous entry point. The Astra Electric Start begins at €36,490, a claimed reduction of €1,900.

Those prices and specifications apply to Germany. Opel did not announce U.S. availability, and the Astra is not sold as a new vehicle in the United States. Taxes, equipment and powertrain choices can vary elsewhere in Europe.

Three powertrains sit under one trim name

The Start trim is available with hybrid, diesel and battery-electric power. The Astra Hybrid combines a 107 kW, or 145-horsepower, system with 230 Nm of torque and a six-speed electrified dual-clutch transmission.

The diesel alternative uses a 96 kW, or 130-horsepower, engine and an eight-speed automatic. Opel lists WLTP combined fuel consumption of 4.8 to 5.1 liters per 100 kilometers for the broader Astra diesel range. The company’s published consumption figures are certification values and should not be treated as independent real-world tests.

The Astra Electric Start produces 115 kW, equivalent to 156 horsepower, and 270 Nm of torque. Opel says the electric Astra range consumes 14.7 to 15.8 kWh per 100 kilometers on the WLTP cycle. It also supports vehicle-to-load operation, allowing the traction battery to power compatible external equipment through an accessory adapter.

What comes standard

Lower pricing does not mean a completely stripped specification. Opel lists six-way-adjustable Intelli-Seats for both front occupants, automatic climate control, front and rear parking sensors, keyless start and two 10-inch screens—one for the instrument display and one for infotainment.

Denim Blue metallic paint is standard and makes its Astra debut with the Start grade. An optional Start Comfort Pack adds heat-shielding glass, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and a center armrest. Sports Tourer buyers can also add roof rails through the package.

Opel is turning “Start” into a wider entry range

The Astra is not the first Opel to use the Start label. Frontera and Combo versions are already available, and Opel says the value-focused grade will expand gradually to other models. At the same time, the company plans to give its higher trims more distinct equipment packages.

The strategy gives Opel a way to cut advertised starting prices without changing the Astra’s core powertrains. It also keeps an electric model in the entry lineup rather than reserving battery power for a premium grade. What remains unclear is how closely other European markets will follow Germany’s pricing and standard equipment.

Where it fits in Opel’s current push

The Astra Start arrives while Opel is using the Paris Motor Show to present a broader range of electrified products.
