Max Verstappen won Formula 1’s first Singapore Sprint on October 10, 2026, surviving a rain-delayed, high-attrition race at Marina Bay. Lewis Hamilton finished 2.591 seconds behind for Ferrari, while teammate Charles Leclerc completed the podium.

The official Formula 1 classification remains provisional at publication time. It records nine drivers as failing to finish the 20-lap Sprint, the highest retirement count yet in the format, according to post-race reporting.

Russell grabbed the lead, then Verstappen took it back

Heavy rain delayed the scheduled start by more than 30 minutes and left standing water around the Marina Bay Street Circuit. The field eventually started on intermediate tires after formation laps behind the Safety Car.

George Russell launched past pole-sitter Verstappen on the opening lap, but the Mercedes driver crashed at the final corner before completing that lap. Verstappen regained first place and went on to complete the 20 laps in 39 minutes, 48.162 seconds.

The victory converts the pole position Verstappen retained after Friday’s stewards’ review. Chiefs Review’s earlier report explains why the stewards left Verstappen on Singapore Sprint pole.

Official provisional top eight

  1. Max Verstappen, Red Bull Racing — 39:48.162, 8 points
  2. Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari — +2.591 seconds, 7 points
  3. Charles Leclerc, Ferrari — +16.871 seconds, 6 points
  4. Kimi Antonelli, Mercedes — +17.238 seconds, 5 points
  5. Liam Lawson, Racing Bulls — +20.632 seconds, 4 points
  6. Oliver Bearman, Haas — +24.321 seconds, 3 points
  7. Nico Hülkenberg, Audi — +27.525 seconds, 2 points
  8. Lando Norris, McLaren — +28.272 seconds, 1 point

Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon, Fernando Alonso, Carlos Sainz and Arvid Lindblad completed the running order outside the points.

McLaren contact capped a race of heavy attrition

Oscar Piastri was classified 14th and did not finish after completing 19 laps, while Norris reached the flag in eighth. The McLaren teammates made contact on the final lap while fighting for position. Any later stewards’ decisions could still change the provisional result, so the official classification remains the final reference.

Alexander Albon, Gabriel Bortoleto, Valtteri Bottas, Isack Hadjar, Franco Colapinto, Russell, Sergio Pérez and Lance Stroll were also listed as non-finishers. The unusual nine-car retirement count explains why several drivers who began well outside the leading group reached the points.

Antonelli’s championship lead grows

Kimi Antonelli’s fourth place moved him to 325 points. Russell remains second on 236 after scoring no points, expanding Antonelli’s lead to 89. Hamilton is third with 221, followed by Leclerc on 197 and Verstappen on 196.

The Sprint result does not set the grid for Sunday’s Grand Prix. Regular qualifying follows later on October 10, with the main race scheduled for October 11.
