Citroën is using one of its best-known names to make a case for a smaller, lighter and less expensive electric car. The 2 CV Concept unveiled at the 2026 Paris Motor Show is a 3.76-metre study that previews a European-built production model the company says will join its range by 2028.

The target is unusually specific for a concept: Citroën says the future model should start at around €15,000 and comply with Europe’s planned E-Car rules. Those are company goals, not final pricing or homologated specifications. Battery capacity, motor output, range and charging speed have not been announced.

Light weight is central to the plan

Instead of chasing a large battery or luxury features, Citroën is aiming for a curb weight of about one tonne. The company’s reasoning is straightforward: less mass can reduce the battery size needed for everyday driving, which can lower purchase cost and energy use.

At 3.76 metres long, the concept is shorter than the original 2 CV. It is intended to sit between the tiny Ami and the C3 in Citroën’s European lineup, with easier parking and lower running costs prioritized over long-distance specifications.

The body also reflects an effort to simplify production and repair. Citroën highlights flatter surfaces, direct air intakes below the windshield and bumpers that can be replaced separately from the body. Michelin developed a connected tire concept that can monitor tire condition and help the vehicle adjust its behavior to the environment.

The design references the original without copying it

Round headlamps, a tall windshield, exposed wipers, rounded fenders and a fabric roof deliberately recall the postwar 2 CV. The concept updates those cues with LED lighting, 18-inch steel wheels and a more sculpted body.

Inside, the conventional dashboard is replaced by a cylindrical structure carrying the steering wheel, main control lever and essential driver information. An eight-inch square touchscreen, removable speaker, storage basket and fabric door pulls support the minimalist theme.

The cabin also uses a pull-out front seat, a removable center basket, tartan upholstery and a mix of wood, bio-based plastic and textured fabric. These details are show-car features; Citroën has not confirmed which will reach the production model.

What is confirmed — and what is not

Citroën has confirmed that the concept is electric, Europe is the intended production region, the target price is approximately €15,000 and a related model is planned by 2028. The company has not released market-by-market availability, final dimensions, safety equipment, range or performance figures.

The announcement matters because it moves beyond a purely nostalgic show car. Citroën is tying the 2 CV identity to a real affordability and weight target, while leaving the engineering details open.
