Opel STX Concept Previews 124-MPH Electric AWD Estate

Opel is using the STX Concept to argue that the electric estate still has a place in a market dominated by SUVs. Revealed for the 2026 Paris Motor Show, the Sports Tourer eXperimental combines all-wheel drive, active aerodynamics and a claimed top speed above 200 km/h, or about 124 mph.

The STX is a design and technology study, not a confirmed production model. Opel says elements of it will appear on future vehicles, but it has not announced battery capacity, motor output, driving range, charging speed, price or a launch schedule.

Active aero is designed for range and stability

The low wagon body uses short overhangs and wide wheel arches, with an emphasis on high-speed efficiency. Three-section aerodynamic wheels wear 285/35 R22 Goodyear tires.

Moving components at the rear respond to driving conditions. Blue diffuser elements extend from underneath the car, while vertical pieces behind the rear wheels move outward. Opel says the system is intended to reduce drag and improve directional stability as well as efficiency.

The company links those features to an electric all-wheel-drive architecture and a top speed exceeding 200 km/h. No acceleration figure or power rating was disclosed, so the performance claim cannot yet be compared directly with production EVs.

A new face for future Opel models

The STX also previews the next evolution of Opel’s “Vizor” front design. A taller dark panel is framed by vertical slanted light elements that fade toward the center, where an illuminated Opel emblem anchors the company’s compass-shaped lighting theme.

At the rear, the roofline drops sharply to balance cargo space with a cleaner profile. Thin horizontal lights, an illuminated OPEL wordmark and glass strips extending from the C-pillars into the roof carry the lighting treatment around the car.

Conventional side mirrors are replaced by cameras. Opel has described a future interior with immersive lighting and lightweight seats, but the Paris announcement focuses mainly on the exterior and aerodynamic package rather than a finished cabin.

The estate connection is intentional

Opel traces its wagon history to the 1953 Olympia Rekord Caravan and later Kadett Caravan and Astra Sports Tourer models. The STX name connects directly to that lineage: “ST” for Sports Tourer and “X” for experimental.

The concept’s practical significance will depend on which features survive. Camera mirrors and complex moving aero can add cost, while the long roof and large cargo area could make the basic body style useful without SUV height. Opel has only promised that design and technology cues will inform future models.
