Toyota Launches New Sora Hydrogen Bus Developed With Isuzu

Toyota launched an upgraded Sora fuel-cell route bus on October 5, 2026. The new vehicle combines an Isuzu full-flat battery-electric bus platform with Toyota’s fuel-cell system.
Toyota says the bus uses hydrogen more efficiently than the first-generation Sora. The company reports approximately 20% less total hydrogen-tank capacity and a reference range above 300 km, about 100 km farther than before.
Treat the range as a reference value
Toyota identifies those figures as its own measurements and says operating conditions can change the result. Temperature, traffic, passenger load and air-conditioning use are among the variables it names.
A fleet story with a different buying equation
For a transit operator, a bus’s usefulness depends on more than its advertised range. Route length, refueling access, downtime and maintenance planning all matter. Those considerations differ from the home-charging questions a private EV owner faces.
The announcement is a new public-transport application of fuel-cell technology. It is not confirmation of a new passenger-car model or a U.S. retail launch. Chiefs Review is reporting Toyota’s launch details, not an independent evaluation of the bus.
