Nissan Starts Global Frontier Pro Rollout With Mexico as First Export Market

Nissan will begin the international rollout of the Frontier Pro pickup in Mexico this month, making Mexico the first market outside China to receive the new truck. The company’s October 8 announcement also maps out launches across Latin America, the Philippines, the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand.
Mexico starts the export rollout
Nissan says sales will begin in Mexico in October 2026. Other Latin American markets are scheduled to follow before the end of the year. The same truck will use the Navara Pro name in the Philippines and Middle East during 2026, with Australia and New Zealand planned for 2027.
The announcement does not include a U.S. or Canadian launch. Pricing, trim structure and market-by-market towing ratings also remain to be announced, so shoppers should not assume that specifications published for one region will apply everywhere.
Nissan’s first plug-in hybrid pickup
The Frontier Pro/Navara Pro has been developed with 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter plug-in hybrid systems, along with gasoline and diesel choices. Nissan says the plug-in hybrid will be offered in Latin America, ASEAN markets and Oceania, while the Middle East will receive internal-combustion versions.
For the Middle East, Nissan lists a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine producing 244 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque with an eight-speed automatic. A 2.3-liter turbo-diesel is rated at 141 horsepower and 400 Nm, paired with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic. Those figures apply to the announced Middle East configurations, not automatically to Mexico’s plug-in hybrid.
The PHEV also includes vehicle-to-load capability, allowing the truck to power external equipment. Nissan describes the cabin as a five-seat layout intended to balance work use with family and everyday driving.
A China-developed Nissan for global markets
The pickup was designed, developed and manufactured by Zhengzhou Nissan, the company’s joint venture in China. Nissan calls it the first model developed and produced in China specifically for global export. That makes the rollout as much an industry story as a product launch: China is becoming an engineering and export base for Nissan, not only a sales market.
The truck enters a growing field of electrified utility vehicles. For context, Chiefs Review recently examined Ford’s latest Maverick Hybrid sales results and Volkswagen’s new ID. Tiguan electric SUV.
